’90s Movie You Need to See Immediately: “Singles”
The 90s were a glorious time. A time to wear pigtails, drink Surge like water and have a very legitimate crush on a member of N*SYNC. Delve into the splendor of 90s love, sex, friendship, companionship and bad hair.
“Somewhere around 25, bizarre becomes immature.”Trust me, the core story holds up and you will relate.
Directed by Cameron Crowe before he did mega hits ‘Almost famous’, ‘Jerry Maguire’ (hello… “you had me at hello.”) and ‘Vanilla Sky’. Its a Romantic comedy about an interrelated group of twenty somethings most of whom live in the same apartment building in Seattle and whose lives loosely revolve around the city’s blossoming grunge music scene.
The soundtrack is a grunge dream, with Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Mudhoney (sorry no Nirvana).
Desperation – it’s the world’s worst cologne. The cast is excellent with early performances by beautiful tomboy Bridget Fonda, Matt Dillon, Kyra Sedgwick, Eric Stoltz, Jeremy Piven (before his Entourage ‘Hug it out bitch’ days), Tom Skerritt, Bill Pullman, Peter Horton & a few more faces you may recognize.
Basically this movie is a 99 minute tour through the Museum of the 90s right in your living room, complete with a foray into video dating – the Tinder of the day.
But more importantly, it’s a well made, quirky little movie with excellent identifiable dialogue, music, humor, and a younger cast of stars whom we know today, thrown into situations that everyone single or in love will relate to.
You will love it.
